Disliked by most, Artex still covers many ceilings but also some walls. There are various ways to deal with this, but normally it is plastered over to cover it if the pattern isn't too deep, or else it is over-boarded with new plasterboard and skimmed. There are ways of removing it, but they can be costly and/or messy and leaving it in place avoids the possibility of having to deal with asbestos which can be common in older Artex.
